After attending maker Mela, it was time to head for Mini Maker faire in Bengaluru. Braving Mumbai traffic, I somehow reached airport. Unfortunately, the auto guy overcharged from the decided amount citing my hurry. All loaded with maker stuff, I checked-in my luggage to find it was over by 10 kg from authorized amount. All the money saved in tickets was gone. Note to self: Prefer to use Train Travel for all future journeys to maker events. Since I reached Bengaluru couple of days before the event, I decided to visit the makerspaces there. Had a wonderful interaction with Anna & Kavita Arora at ‘The Workshop’. It was great to see them working on a giant installation for the mini maker faire.
So, the day of maker Faire was here, took a cab and reached the venue, Taj by Vivanta. The arrangements were made at the ground floor with stalls already enmarked for the exhibits. Reaching the area, with all my luggage, was a pain. I wish some support staff had assisted there. Since, the NASSCOM product conclave was going on the same floor, a lot of initial visitors were entrepreneurs. It was a good experience to interact with them and address their queries and understanding of ‘The Maker Movement’. As the day progressed, lots of crowd poured in from students to teachers to Hobbyists.
One of them, especially visited us, saying she saw us on the Maker Faire Facebook page and came only for two exhibits, out of which ours was the one. Such words certainly make you happy. While adults got a chance to hands on our electronic projects, the children got a hands on experience on thread painting to make amazing designs. It was great to see the smile on their faces, symbolic of true feeling of ‘Yes!! I MADE IT!!’
Many people were a bit confused seeing an organdy flower, hand-made book holder, paintings etc. with electronics, circuits, power supplies – They certainly got to know the diversity the makerspace & the maker movement embodies. The event drawn to close around 6 pm.
It was a great experience to be there. Look forward to better & bigger event next year.
